How to know my ring size? Discover the guide to choose well
Rings are one of the most popular and meaningful pieces of jewelry to give as a gift (and to buy for yourself!), but when you want to choose the perfect ring for someone special or when you want to buy a ring you love online, you always encounter the same dilemma: How do I know my ring size?
Rings are a perfect and unique accessory for everyone. It's important that they don't pinch too much, as they can be uncomfortable, nor should they be too loose, because they can get lost. The ring in question must fit just right and, although it seems like an impossible mission, it is easier than it seems to get it right the first time. If you need to know your size, if you want to give a gift or if you are preparing for a proposal, we will help you find the correct ring size.
Ring sizes and equivalences
In Spain there is a standard sizing that has its respective equivalences in other European and foreign measurements, although there are also brands that have their own sizing system. The most common sizes range from 8 to 30, for both men and women.
So you can easily find your ring size in any sizing model, we have prepared the following table, which includes the main measurements in European and foreign formats.

*Note: measurements may vary by 0.1-0.2mm.
How to know my ring size?
If you don't know your ring size in any of the existing models, there are several ways to find out, depending on whether you have a ring on hand at the moment or not. Although not all are equally precise, they can give you an approximation of what size is right for you.
Ring sizer chart
On the JOSE LUIS Joyerías website you have a size guide available where you can find the right ring size. You can find it here. You will need to print the guide and have a well-fitting ring (that slides on and off easily) as a reference.
The procedure is simple: you need to match the inside of your ring with one of the printed circles, and the one that matches will be your size. Be careful! The line of the printed circle cannot be directly under the inside of the ring nor too far apart; the most suitable measurement will be just touching the inside.

Measure the ring's diameter
An alternative to this method if you don't have a printer, although not as reliable, would be to use a rigid ruler to measure the diameter of the ring. You can do this on the ring itself or by drawing its outline on a sheet of paper and measuring it. Then, use the value guide from the previous section to find your ring size.
This method is not as precise because measuring the inner diameter of the ring with a ruler is difficult, but it can give you an approximate idea.
Measure your finger
Another option you can use to find your ring size is to measure your finger's circumference. There are sizers that fit on your finger and provide you with a very precise size, but if you don't have one, there are alternatives that can work.
- If you have a sewing tape measure: wrap the tape around your finger and you will get the measurement in centimeters. Then, you just have to look for the equivalent in the size guide.
- If you don't have a tape measure: cut a thin strip of paper and wrap it around your finger. Mark the point where the ends meet, without pressing the paper too tightly, and you will get the measurement of your finger's perimeter. Then, measure it with a normal ruler or close it to use with a ring sizer chart. In this case, you could also use a thin string or thread.
Professional sizers
One of the most recommended options for accurately knowing your ring size is to go to a jewelry store, where they will have professional sizers to determine the size. Some of these tools are the tatum stick, the ring sizer, or the caliper.
Tips for finding your ring size
There are some preliminary considerations that you should take into account before trying to figure out your ring size, as they can significantly influence the size obtained.
- Factors such as heat, cold or humidity affect your hands. With heat, hands swell and with cold, they contract. This can make your size vary.
- The finger you should measure to find the size must be the same one on which you are going to wear the ring. The fingers of the hands have different measurements (something that also influences is whether it is the right or left hand), make sure to measure the correct one.
- Rings that are wider usually fit a little tighter, so it is advisable (if possible) to take a ring similar to the one you are going to buy as a reference.
- A ring that fits well is one that is neither too loose nor too tight, that can move a little up and down and also rotate on itself.
- If in doubt between two sizes, it would be advisable to choose the larger one, because it could be adjusted if necessary.
